There are two main types of pulp capping: direct pulp caps and indirect pulp caps. Direct pulp caps are used when decay or trauma has exposed the pulp; they involve sealing the pulp chamber with a special material to prevent further damage. Indirect pulp caps are recommended when decay removal comes close to exposing the dental pulp; they create a protective seal to prevent exposure and further damage.
